When I stepped into the gallery the first time, Virginia recruited me to replace a burnt out light bulb.

Direct was her style. The light, absolutely necessary for her curatorial eye.
We became good friends complete with highs and lows.

For the last couple years I was gallery assistant along with Donna Kent and others. My role included much more though, often picking her up from Little Compton to delivering her home at night, occasionally shopping and dining together.
Sometimes, at the close of day, we would grab a bottle of wine and head to Sakonnet Point to catch the sunset.

Long conversations about art, life with laughter mixed with the sound of breaking waves.  “Do not undervalue yourself” was her emphatic advice. I knew that this was a special moment in time with her.
